Handover of the vehicle to the Karlsruhe public transport company at InnoTrans in Berlin

ZAGRO, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks and the Unimog agency Knoblauch handed over the multifunctional ZAGRO Road-Rail vehicle based on Unimog to Christian Höglmeier, the technical managing director of the Karlsruhe Transport Authority (VBK) and the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) at InnoTrans in Berlin. Our project manager Moritz Engelhardt (4th from right) was also present.

The Road-Rail vehicle is a combination of tractor shunter and equipment carrier. It is equipped with various interchangeable attachments such as a front boom, loading crane, aerial work platform, track spraying system, snow plough and two road rail trailers. The built-in torque converter coupling makes it possible, for example, to pull a broken-down commuter train. The hydrostatic drive of the carrier vehicle ensures the optimum working speed depending on the application.

The vehicle is the first of a total of four multifunctional ZAGRO Road-Rail vehicles based on Unimog. Furthermore, one Unimog without rail guidance and two road-rail trailers are supplied. Two of the Road-Rail Unimogs have the superstructures as described above, the other vehicles are for cleaning the track and for grinding. ZAGRO is the main contractor for the entire project.
