ZAGRO E-MAXI L – Electric road rail tractors for the American market | ZAGRO & Railquip in action

A milestone for electric rail logistics in the USA

With the ZAGRO E-MAXI L, we are setting new standards in sustainable shunting work – not only in Europe, but worldwide. In close cooperation with our sales partner Railquip, an established supplier of rail technologies in North America, we have manufactured four high-performance, fully electric shunting vehicles in a striking lemon-yellow color specifically for the American market.

These battery-driven tractors are not only a technical highlight – they are a symbol of the future of rail transport: quiet, emission-free, efficient, and designed for maximum reliability. With a track gauge of 1435 mm and an AAR coupler, they are perfectly designed for connection to North American trains and freight cars. Each vehicle weighs 6.5 tons and can move up to 350 tons. Thanks to their maneuverability and compact design, these ZAGRO E-MAXI L vehicles are ideal for daily shunting operations in depots.

The vehicles were loaded at the production site in Bad Rappenau, Germany, and are now beginning their journey to Atlanta, Georgia. There, they will ensure maximum precision and safety for operation in indoor stations and depots of Amtrak, a major provider of long-distance passenger transport.

The modern equipment is impressive: a simple operating concept with radio remote control, a comfortable driver's cab with two seats, and a robust, durable design make the ZAGRO E-MAXI the ideal partner for everyday use. With just one operator and maximum efficiency, the shunting process is not only safer but also more environmentally friendly.

Why the ZAGRO E-MAXI L is a leap into the future
The collaboration with Railquip shows that sustainability in rail transport is not a dream for the future – it is already a reality. By using fully electric shunting vehicles such as the ZAGRO E-MAXI L, operators not only reduce their CO₂ emissions, but also their operating costs and maintenance expenses. The combination of ZAGRO technology and Railquip expertise creates solutions that are precisely tailored to the needs of the American market – with an eye to the future.
