Four more ZAGRO E-Maxi electric shunting vehicles for Swiss Federal Railways (SBB)

With over 5,500 km, the Swiss rail network is not only one of the longest and densest in the world in relation to the country's size, but with a punctuality rate of 93.2%, it is also one of the most punctual and reliable rail networks in existence.
On average, 11,569 trains run on the SBB network alone every day, 83% of which are passenger trains, transporting around 1.39 million passengers daily between a total of over 600 SBB stations.

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) fleet consists of several hundred multiple units, mainline locomotives and railcars. Regular inspections and preventive measures are carried out to keep this fleet in optimal condition. To ensure that the rolling stock can be moved safely, in a modern and energy-efficient manner, and also economically in the respective workshops, Tafag AG, as the general representative of the ZAGRO Group for Switzerland, was awarded a contract following a successful tender process to supply four new ZAGRO vehicles for the Weinfelden, Biel, Lonay and Zurich sites. With the four new additions, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) now has an impressive 24 vehicles distributed across various locations throughout Switzerland.

Thanks to their compact dimensions and standard four-wheel steering, ZAGRO E-MAXI vehicles are highly manoeuvrable and can easily negotiate narrow curves. The powerful electric shunters also prove to be very practical helpers in everyday work and are easy to operate via the built-in radio remote control. In addition to safety, flexibility is also key, as the ability to change tracks on paved ground and then re-rail on level ground saves a lot of time and eliminates the need for several empty trips over switches.

The teams at ZAGRO and Tafag AG are proud to be making an important contribution to a safe and simplified workflow and to further facilitating the work of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) staff with the four new vehicles.
