The ZAGRO Group is pleased to present another successful customer project from ZWEIWEG: a specially developed rail groove cleaning vehicle for the metre-gauge network of Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Zwickau GmbH (SVZ).
Following approval by the railway supervisory authority and road approval, the vehicle has now entered trial operation. It will immediately reinforce the SVZ "orange fleet", which already consists of a tower wagon, a Multicar and a track network truck.
Tailor-made technology for maximum effect
The vehicle, designed and built by ZWEIWEG, fulfils several tasks to keep Zwickau's infrastructure clean, safe and efficient:
- Cleaning the grooved track in metre-gauge and three-rail tracks
- Suctioning up dirt and deposits in the track area
- Mobile suction nozzle for platform and track areas
- High-pressure cleaning for points
- Mechanical rail head cleaning with brushes
The vehicle performs weekly network inspections using these functions, thereby significantly improving the overall appearance and functionality of the infrastructure.
Measurable benefits for tram operations
Regular cleaning has a direct impact on the operational safety and efficiency of trams:
- Optimised track drainage thanks to clean drains
- Shorter braking distances due to reduced dirt deposits
- Lower noise emissions
- Less material wear on wheel tyres
- Fewer disruptions in track availability due to cleaner systems
The rail groove cleaning vehicle thus contributes directly to reliable, safe and low-noise tram operation.
Partnership-based development – individual solution
From the technical concept design to final acceptance, every detail was consistently tailored to the needs of the Zwickau network.
Once again, we have demonstrated our expertise in tailor-made road-rail solutions and are delighted to see another innovative special vehicle in operation. Many thanks to Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Zwickau GmbH for their excellent cooperation.
