Road/Rail Technology

Road/rail vehicles are road vehicles equipped with an additional road/rail technology. This means that they can be used universally on road and rail infrastructure. Whether pickups, vans, construction machines or commercial vehicles of all weight classes - all types of road vehicles can be converted into a road/rail vehicle. The basic vehicle, body, equipment and rail/road technology are combined into a customized unit and equipped with all the necessary approvals for road and rail.

Road/rail vehicles offer you following system advantages:

  • Transfer between the operation sites by the flexible and always available road network
  • Cost-effective and economical in purchasing and operation
  • Refilling of operating materials at every petrol station for road vehicles
  • Maintenance and service for the road/rail system by every ZAGRO Group Service Station as well as by the field service
  • Maintenance and service for the basic vehicle by the service network of the base vehicle manufacturer
  • Easy and ergonomic operation of the vehicle
  • Driver's license for the basic vehicle and, if applicable, a train driver’s license is sufficient
  • Long-term quality and high availability
  • Economically optimal and environmentally friendly vehicle engine in accordance with the latest     emissions regulations
  • Depending on the vehicle structure and equipment, it can often be used on the road

The road/rail devices can be designed as a rail guiding or a rail drive system.

Rail guiding system

With the rail guiding system, the road/rail vehicle drives with its tyres on the railhead and is guided safely by the track wheels. Traction and braking are carried out by the tyres.

Rail guiding device front / rear Remarks used for
Articulated guide rollers smallest negotiable curve radius approx. 35 m
(depending on the wheelbase)
the tyre always matches the track gauge
Unimog
Light Truck
Excavator
Transporter
Guide wheel Ø 400 mm    smallest negotiable curve radius approx. 60 m
(depending on the wheelbase)
the tyre always matches the track gauge
Guidance bogie smallest negotiable curve radius approx. 17 m
(depending on the wheelbase)
the tyre always matches the track gauge
For vehicles whose front axle gauge cannot be adjusted to the track gauge:
Guidance bogie
Vehicle lifted at the front
smallest negotiable curve radius approx. 17 m
(depending on the wheelbase)
the tyre gauge of the rear axle gauge always matches the track gauge
Truck
Transporter
Guide wheel Ø 400 mm
Vehicle lifted at the front
smallest accessible curve radius approx. 25 m
(depending on the wheelbase)
the tyre gauge of the rear axle gauge always matches the track gauge

Rail drive systems

Rail drive systems are used in all types of vehicles in which the tyres cannot or may not have direct contact with the rail head. The vehicle is lifted and runs exclusively on their rail wheels. Traction and braking are performed by the rail wheels.
