Through their UK-based business partner Design & Project Int. Ltd., ZAGRO Bahn- und Baumaschinen GmbH received the order to provide road-rail vehicles for the Metro Manila depot. The supply includes a Unimog U 423 work vehicle, a Sprinter 516 CDI crew car and a road-rail trailer. The vehicles will be used for maintenance and repair work on the modern MRT3 metro line of 16.9 kilometres.
The Unimog U 423 was equipped with a turntable rail guide device and is therefore perfect for negotiating the tight curve radii existing on the light rail line in Manila. Equipped with a work platform and loading space, the vehicle is ideally suited for maintenance on overhead lines. In addition, a cable drum trailer fabricated by ZWEIWEG is coupled to this Unimog road-rail vehicle. This road-rail trailer is the ideal addition to the work vehicle, especially when laying contact lines and suspension cables.
ZAGRO also delivered a Sprinter 516 CDI crew car. The vehicle offers sufficient storage space for equipment and seats for maximum nine people. In order to negotiate the narrow radii of up to 25 meters with this Sprinter, it is equipped with a combined rail guide. At the front, the vehicle is lifted out by the rail axle, while the turntable at the rear enables both driving on small radii and propulsion on the rails via the Sprinter tires. To ensure additional safety, the rail wheels are equipped with brakes on the raised front.
